OFFICE OF THE MAYOR
CITY OF CHICAGO
November 1, 2013
Dear Miss Alex White, |
As Mayor, I want to thank you for participating as a speaker at the City of Chicago’s inaugural Chicago Music Summit sponsored by Google on September 20, 2013.
Your knowledge, expertise, and advice elevated the level of conversation around music industry best practices and issues and set the bar for further dialogue here in Chicago. As a success story and thought leader, you served as a model for our local industry and communicated that our community can thrive through professional development, sharing ideas, and staying connected.
Our city’s deep roots in blues, jazz, gospel, and house music as well as its significant contributions to rock, hip-hop and classical music position Chicago as a world-class musical hub. The Chicago Music Summit marks a major step forward by the City of Chicago in bringing together all aspects of our local and national music industry. Featuring free panel discussions, networking opportunities and concerts, the conference shined a spotlight on our innovative music scene and provided music professionals with the tools, connections and resources they need to advance their careers in an ever-changing industry.
The Chicago Music Summit supports the priorities of the 2012 Chicago Cultural Plan, including “attract and retain artists and creative professionals,” and “foster arts education and lifelong learning.”
On behalf of the City of Chicago and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, I am grateful for your support. The wealth of knowledge gained and opportunities presented will lead to new found success in the Chicago music industry. Your participation in the Chicago Music Summit will have contributed to the overall growth and prosperity of our Chicago music community for years to come.
Sincerely,
Rahm Emanuel
Mayor
