The Andy Animal “Meltasia” festival takes place in Catskill, New York. It is a focused rock’n’roll weekend event that brings together the coolest of the cool underground tastemakers, like the Black Lips, Shannon & the Clams, Pentagram, Kool Keith, Bloodshot Bill, White Mystery, Mungo Jerry, and Black Oak Arkansas. In 2016, comedian Neil Hamburger was the host, hundreds of people camped in an abandoned zoo, and harmonica master Daddy Long Legs even played in a former monkey cage.

Impose Magazine provided White Mystery with two disposable cameras that were used on tour throughout the United States and Europe from March to August of 2014. See the list of shows spanning from South by Southwest to the Italian countryside right here. You’ll spot a lot of amazing pop culture icons in these pictures, like John Dwyer from Thee Oh Sees, Thor Harris from Swans, and Andy Animal. To be honest, it’s a miracle these little disposable cameras survived all of these worldwide adventures, and we’re very pleased with the pictures that turned out. I’d bring a bottle of peroxide at least as big as the jug of moonshine that looks to be de rigueur at this inaugural Meltasia Music Festival. Noted, because aside from being a big-ass, three-day, camping extravaganza, the preponderance of the musical offerings across multiple stages is of only the dirtiest, rowdiest, lacivious sort. Sprung from the mind of Brooklyn gadabout, Andy Animal—longtime singer of the Stalkers— this amazing imbibe-a-thon is a more formally big deal version of his infamous yearly birthday party camping fests in upstate New York.

This time he took his ideas and little black book to Cherokee Farms, a 270-acre tract of land about 90 minutes north of Atlanta, and ammassed a gathering of grizzled ugh-sters like ’70s boogie masters Black Oak Arkansas and the space dusty Nik Turner’s Hawkwind, along with reliably grimy modern garage rock ratsos such as the Black Lips, White Mystery, Dirty Fences, Cheap Time, Coathangers, Daddy Long Legs, the Biters, Bloodshot Bill, Liquor Store and many many more.

Some slightly more restrained garbage can kickers are in there (Shannon And The Clams, Fletcher C. Johnson) so you can take a breather from throwing your empties across the crowd; not to mention some excellent soul/garage DJs like Jonathan Toubin, Josh Styles and Howie Pyro. Plus, Cherie Currie (of the Runaways) should make some music and chainsaw art (seriously). But for the most part, this looks to be THE trash rock gathering of the year, and one that no doubt scouted hard for a location miles away from the nearest working laundromat. But there will be a big lake to go swim in, so ya got that going for ya.

“Next, my friends White Mystery played some of their fun and playful psych-rock, which went well with the rising sensation that I was pleasantly high. Alex did most of the talking, but every now and then Francis would say dirty things into the mic in a low voice, which cracked me up. It was especially nice to get to see them play after we’d missed them in Chicago during all the craziness of Pitchfork fest.“
