“TRAGIC TO MISS,” ACRN.COM ROCK LOBSTER

This Friday, rock out at The Unionto some wild music. Up-and-coming rock band White Mysteryperforms, following Valleyboys,Gardens and Bonzai. The brother and sister collaboration from Chicago is sure to rock your socks off.

“Our music is definitely high energy rock ‘n’ roll … that people can dance to,” said Miss Alex White.

The female half of the band is comprised of singer and guitarist, Miss White, while the male half is Francis Scott Key White, who plays drums and sings. The make-up of the band is simple, but these musicians can sure be loud.

“It’s high energy rock ‘n’ roll that’s inspired by punk. It’s danceable rock music. We are mostly inspired by rock bands like Black Sabbath, The Rolling Stones, The Who, but then also some more modern music,” said Miss White.

The siblings decided to form a band in April 2008. That day, they decided they wanted to write music and perform as a career, so they called themselves White Mystery. Ever since, the band has been extremely successful.

“I’ve been in many bands including Miss Alex White and the Red Orchestra… I’ve traveled Europe. We always played together as children, then we just decided to start a record label,” said Miss White.

Other than working on their own band, the siblings have recently been playing with ‘90s rock band Garbage. Another symbol of their success is noted in the continuing positive recognition they receive from publications such as PitchforkLA Weekly and The Chicago Tribune.

So far, the band has released two full length albums. As of late, the siblings are working on their third studio album which they plan to record in San Francisco.

“It’ll definitely be a more developed sound in terms of how tight the band has become after touring so much. Francis is taking more of a role singing, so we are getting more male and female vocals. It kind of gives it more of a full sound. Plus, all of our recordings have been created in Chicago. I think the San Francisco vibe will come through somewhat,” said Miss White on the upcoming album.

This show isn’t the band’s first time in Athens. The group performed at the Blackout Festival a few years in a row, which is held annually at The Union.

The show is also part of an ongoing tour throughout the U.S. White Mystery is scheduled to play five shows in Ohio before moving on.

“We’ve played 37 of the 50 states in America. There are so many places, like the desert versus the mountains versus the city. There are definitely rock lovers all around the country of all ages. There are young kids inspired by it, and even people our parents’ age who love the music. It’s cool playing at such a variety of places,” said Miss White.

Even though the band frequently plays shows, it always tries to keep it fresh. Whether at a local bar or an outdoor music festival or an auditorium with hundreds of fans, White Mystery constantly receives positive feedback. This upcoming show is no exception.

“We are really excited because we will be playing a lot of songs from our upcoming album. People coming out in Athens will get a sneak peak,” said Miss White. “A lot of people love the first two albums, so people are welcome to come and check out the new tunes. The Athens crowd can expect a fun show where they just enjoy themselves and dance.”

White Mystery is definitely a band that would be tragic to miss. The redheaded siblings are rockers in their purest form, and anyone at the show will be rocking right along with them. The show is this Friday and starts at 9 p.m.
