The Chicago brother-sister duo has been rocking out since birth and has been going strong as White Mystery for over a decade. Last time BTRtoday chatted with Miss Alex White she was gearing up to celebrate this momentous ten-year musical anniversary. Now, she and her brother, Francis White, are back celebrating another special day for White Mystery—April 20, 2008, the day they started their band MySpace. Gnar Tapes producer Unkle Funkle has taken their classic tracks “Paint Your Nails,” “Buttheads From Mars” and “Get Back to Chicago” and given them an out-of-this-world electronic remix.
“In 2010, with the release of the first White Mystery self-titled album, it became a tradition to release new music on the [4/20] anniversary and play a big show, up to present day,” Miss Alex White tells BTRtoday. “White Mystery met Unkle Funkle on tour at SXSW years ago and developed a friendship—we’re big fans of his ‘Magic Woman’ song and the Gnarnia Comedy Central pilot, so collaboration felt like the next natural step.”
White Mystery is now getting ready for a busy summer, starting with an awesome event with Girls Rock! Camp Carnival. They’ve also been chosen to curate the events for The Chicago Loop Alliance’s ACTIVATE event series in downtown Chicago. Working with A Queer Pride, they’re putting together a free theater event on July 18th and it’s sure to be killer.
In the meantime, listen to the new remixed White Mystery ft. Unkle Funkle below. You’ll dance, you’ll headbang and you’ll definitely have a good time.
