Since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic in America, the live performance industry has come to an unprecedented halt, with concerts, stage performances, festivals and sporting events all cancelled or postponed indefinitely amidst an uncertain future.

But as bars, restaurants and venues have closed amidst self-quarantine and shelter-in-place orders, events ranging anywhere from trivia night to arena concerts have disappeared from the calendar. Ad revenues have dried up, forcing many media outlets to pivot.
“Our entire product and sort of lifeblood is not just the events but all of the people throwing events – from the bar owners to the actual creators and artists, everyone. That’s our entire business, community, friends and everything,” said DoStuff COO and founding employee Kristin Owen. “From a monetary perspective, those people are hurting too. But the way our business works, people come to our site to figure out what to do. And the people throwing events advertise with us to attract bodies to those events – be it Live Nation or bars or venues. All of those different people are spending money with us to advertise and we then get people to the events to which they buy tickets and they buy booze. It’s a very nice, mutually beneficial relationship. Then brands spend money with us on top of that to connect with that audience. But without going to events, no one needs to advertise their events. So I would say 90% of that ad revenue just stopped.”

Due to the dramatic circumstances, most of this year’s 4/20 celebrations have been cancelled or postponed. But there’s no reason you can’t mark the informal stoner holiday from the comfort and safety of your home as cannabis-oriented celebrations have also moved online.

With the first legal 420 in Illinois falling under a shelter-in-place order, Dispensary33 is bringing together the cannabis community to virtually bring together those who love and have fought for the legalization of the plant so they can tune in from home.
The virtual 420 fest via Twitch will take place on Saturday, April 18th at 4:20pm with personalities from the community creating original content to unite, entertain, and ignite the cannabis community. Each segment will include appearances by local neighbors cooking with cannabis, blowing glass, bending neon, along with DJ sets, drag and performance art. Featuring: Shea Couleé(Rupaul’s Drag Race), Chef Angelina (Top Chef), Sarah Mitchell (Tournant Chi), Lucy Stoole, White Mystery, Sauce and Bread Kitchen (Coop Hot Sauce), Bambi Banks-Couleé, Dom Brown, Kat Sass, Jenae Williams (Tokeativity), Ramona Slick, and Acacia (Glassblower).
White Mystery is more than just a band…we organize pop-up Roller Skating Rinks with the fine folks at 1833! Thanks to the Do312 MORE members community for attending, and to SPIN for hosting the incredible event. New Belgium Brewing provided the beers, the new cast from the new musical “Hit Her with the Skates” performed, the master of ceremonies Her? skate-danced to ABBA, along with DJs Francis White and Dave Mata behind the decks. Thanks to the Chicago Shred Union for rink guards that kept everyone safe and happy on the rinks.

The fifth annual Rock’n’Roll Market on Saturday, August 17 was a success! We had close to 5,000 attendees walk through the festival grounds at the East Room. With 59 vendors throughout, there was no shortage of vintage, handcrafted, and unique goods. The day featured performances by Hunx and his Punx, White Mystery, Blacker Face, Bev Rage and the Drinks, Click Bait, Dead Gremmies, Environmental Encroachment, DJ E2H2, and Tangerine Beats DJs. Thanks to everyone who attended this year, and we can’t wait for next year!
