For the first time since South By Southwest, Chicago’s White Mystery hit Austin and took the stage at Beer-land on Friday night. Between now and then they have played a ton of shows, and released their second record Blood and Venom.

The place was packed, and the energy was electric. Alex picks up her rickenbacker guitar, and immediately tears into the first track on the new record, the band anthem, ” White Mystery.” The audience is slapped in the face with fuzz and reverb, Francis begins the thundering toms, and relentless kick from his stripped down kit. Two people have never had a bigger sound. They both begin bobbing their fire red hair to the beat, and the audience must obey, soon the whole crowd is moving in unison. Alex’s sweet voice rings over the rest of the sound. This is musical heaven. Her voice is like the siren songs that led ancient sailors to their deaths, sweet, loud, and irresistible.

They shred through their set non-stop, like the punk rockers of old but with a vintage tone and style like no other. Alex moves her tiny hands over her guitar neck with ease and confidence that would make the most accomplished of players go home and practice in shame. Francis makes thunder, and does more with his one symbol, and a few drums in one show,  than most rock drummers do all year.

Fiery, fast and gorgeous, this brother-sister duo has it all. First the listener falls in love with the sound. Then Alex flashes her  big green eyes, smiles like she knows the secrets to the universe, and if the audience listens close she just might share them. She is the fire king’s daughter. Francis is a rock n roll animal, only stopping his head-banging long enough to add choice backup vocals. The man plays so hard it makes one wonder if the drums will survive. To wrap up a perfect package, they are two of the nicest folks I have come across in my life.  They even took some time out of their schedule to answer some questions from this super fan.  Read the interview here on Vivoblog!
