Picture 26

In the name of helping you make the most of your Lollapalooza experience, we’ve partnered with Lolla to bring you a weekly guide to some of Chicago’s best spots. This week, White Mystery‘s Alex White shares her list of favorite local fashion outposts.

Miss Alex White is front-woman of Chicago wildest rock’n’roll duo, White Mystery and a Do312 Tastemaker. In addition to shredding on guitar, she models for the Levi’s jeans #equipped campaign and is a fashionista round’town. Here’s where the Chi-town homegirl recommends you shop – be sure to tell ‘em Miss Alex White sent you!

Eye Spy Optical

Summer is prime time for optical wear, so why not protect your eyeballs with the finest frames possible? Eye Spy Optical offers high-end glasses from around the world, including designer brands like Francis Klein from Paris, Anne et Valentin, and Theo. Take the CTA Brown-Line train to Paulina for this cute boutique next to the Starbucks, and have fun exploring this neighborhood after your visit.

Strange Cargo

Need a spare pair of stripey socks, fresh Vans, or a custom iron-on tee shirt? Venture to Wrigleyville for Strange Cargo, a treasure trove of sneakers, affordable doo-dads, and vintage leather jackets. Just take the Brown-Line to the Belmont train stop, walk up Clark Street toward the Cub’s baseball stadium, and you’ll find this shop among many cool Chicago gems.

Alcala’s Western Wear

Wrangle yourself a genuine cobra belt, embroidered pearl-snap shirt, or leather-fringed cape at Chicago’s ultimate emporium for all things cowboy or cowgirl. Splurge on Lucchese or Frye boots that include a life-time promise for free shoe-shines whenever you’re in town, plus you can check out the ultra-hip Alcala’s Boutique next door. The store offers free tailoring for Levi’s in every color, and free parking across the street!

Salamander Shoes

Salamander offers really groovy, imported kicks from Europe like the iconic Worishofer, which is a light-weight, cork-heeled platform with perforated leather that allows you to pound pavement in comfort while looking pretty cute. Go upstairs to Rock’n’Roll Vintage to shop for the most rare guitars and basses, while you’re at it! Located conveniently in the Lincoln Square neighborhood, just spitting distance from the Western stop on the Brown-Line.

eDrop-Off

This is an exclusively online eBay seller of super high-end designer clothing; however, you can go to their storefront in Lincoln Park to physically try on dazzling threads before purchase. First peruse the warehouse of couture brands like Chanel, Gucci, and Burberry on the eDropOff website, bid, then call ahead for a preview of the item before purchase. This is a very cool option for those of you interested rare, one-of-a-kind clothing— at gently used prices.
