ANDERSONVILLE — It may not take place in the middle of the summer, but Andersonville will have a street fest this year after all.
Andersonville Homecoming will take over Clark Street Sept. 24-26 with live music, local merchants and food and drink tents, according to the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce.
The event will mark the return of large-scale street fests to Andersonville, as the neighborhood’s beloved Midsommarfest has been canceled two straight years because of the coronavirus pandemic. Andersonville Homecoming will be an “end-of-summer celebration,” according to the chamber.
This year’s Midsommarfest was scheduled for June 10-12 before it was canceled.
“Andersonville Homecoming will be a special moment where we can give a ‘thank you’ to the folks who have supported our business owners, their employees, and those who have given back to the community for the past 17 months,” said David Oakes, business services and district manager for the chamber.
Midsommarfest favorites like Dancing Queen, an Abba tribute band will, be at Andersonville Homecoming, among other live acts.
There will be two stages at the event, with other scheduled acts including Roy Kinsey, White Mystery, Lowdown Brass Band and Sixteen Candles. Andersonville-based music and production company quiet Pterodactyl will stage nightly digital street projects, which will be sound-tracked by live DJs.
Andersonville Homecoming will have a $10 suggested donation at the door. The funds will benefit the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce, which has lost a significant revenue stream because of the loss of special events during the pandemic.
